Reading, writing, speaking and listening are about the exchange of ideas, needs, hopes and dreams. All of these skills are forms of communication essential to professional and personal success. The Communications Studies Department teaches students to develop and hone these skills. The department offers courses in public speaking, interpersonal communication, intercultural communication, small group interaction, leadership, oral interpretation, and argumentation and debate. Through the process of experiential learning, students will cultivate skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, intercultural understanding, nonverbal communication, reasoning, advocacy, and persuasion.
The department offers associate degrees that set the stage for students to pursue a bachelor鈥檚 degree and/or enter the workforce. Graduates leave prepared to meet future challenges, seize career opportunities, and thrive in fields such as business and industry, communications and public affairs, government and social services, and education.
